FAQ

When are adhouse classes?

They typically run three seasons a year (Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall) for 10 weeks. They’re usually hosted 6:30 - 9, but that’s up to the teacher, too.

How much are adhouse classes?

Typically they’re $600 per course. They max out at about 14 people, so you get lots of attention. Select classes may vary, depending on their length or subject.

Are there additional costs?

A teacher may tell you to read some books, get a magazine subscription or check out a publication or website or group. But typically, what you pay for the class is about all you’ll need. A pen and piece of paper would probably be helpful, but you could probably grub that off someone if need be.

Am I right for Adhouse?

Do you want to learn to make ads of the creative type? Then yes. Do you want to improve your existing portfolio with spec work? Then yes. Do you have no idea what a portfolio or spec work is, but want to be someone who makes commercials, banner ads, online films, posters and zany stunts for brands that pay you money that can cover rent and dinner? Then yes. Are you a strategist or account person or PR or media person who either wants to be better at what you do or make the leap to the creative department? Then yes. Are you and in-house creative who wants to better their department? Yep, you too. A designer or photographer who wants ad work in their book? Uh huh. We’ve had everything from account people to lawyers and a hedge fund guy (not kidding) come through Adhouse.

Is Adhouse right for me?

There are a lot of portfolio schools out there. Some people need more rigidity. Some need guidance. Some need a trip around the the world. Adhouse was created for people in New York who for reasons - be they financial, work or personal - want to stay in New York. It’s a school for self-starters and ambitious folks (y’know, New Yorkers). But it’s also been a great trial place for people who go onto other schools like Creative Circus, VCU, Miami Ad School and more. No matter what, we think you’ll get something out of Adhouse. And some of you will get a portfolio and a job out of Adhouse.

Where is Adhouse located?

On a philosophical level, Adhouse is like the Sioux Nation: we carry it with us wherever we go. On a less deliberately annoying and unnecessarily obtuse level, it’s held at the agencies at which our teachers, some of the best and brightest in New York, are currently working. This means your class may be at BBDO, maybe at Ogilvy. You never know. But you will. Once you sign up.

Will Adhouse guarantee me a job?

There’s no magic bullet to get a job-grabbing portfolio. But we can help you create the pieces to make one. This is going to take effort on your part. But we can promise you that we put in a lot of effort on our part, too.

Will Adhouse Help me find a job?

Heck yes. On top of being staffed by teachers who know when their own agencies need someone, we have a network of recruiters who call all the time looking for juniors like our students. When your book is ready to show, we can help connect you with some people you’ll want to meet.

How long does adhouse take?

Classes are 10 weeks. During that time, you’ll probably work on at least 9 assignments. How long it takes you to finish them and produce them is up to you.

Now, be warned: creating a killer portfolio takes time and effort. We have had creatives who have taken one class and gotten a great job. But it’s rare, and there are usually mitigating circumstances. Creating a portfolio can take anywhere from 3 months to 2 years, depending on how much time you can dedicate to the process. But if you’re committed to your success, we are too.
